What a disappointment to discover that this exotic-looking fellow with giant antennae like a bird's feathers is actually the male gypsy moth.

It's more common to see pictures of the light-colored female (who doesn't look like this at all) with the infamously-large abdomen and egg mass, ready to unleash her defoliating offspring on the unwary gardener.
