Imperial moth
This female imperial, one of the royal moths, is the first one we've ever seen in our yard. She came to the patio lights late at night, but retreated to a dark stand of ferns when discovered by our daughter. She was at least 5" across.
Imperial larvae live on many kinds of trees including maple, oak, pines and walnut. Imperial adults do not feed. |
