Forest Tent Caterpillar moth Now here's a handsome fellow with an identity crisis - not only is the moth named for its more infamous caterpillar, but this is a tent caterpillar that doesn't make those nasty tents! They are defoliators, though, and can do extensive damage to trees and shrubs. Our maples are on its dietary menu. The UMass Landscape Nursery site has a great set of pages showing the differences between this guy and the Eastern tent caterpillars. |
