The Gem

While this moth is listed as "very common" in Covell, this is the only one we have been able to photograph thus far.

Unlike most of the moth pictures on this site, which capture moths feeding at night or settled near a patio light, this shot was taken in the middle of the afternoon.

The species reportedly has a wide variety of host plants, including the chrysanthemums near which this specimen was found.
