Large Lace-Border
(family Geometridae, subfamily Sterrhinae)

There are many varieties of inchworm moths, but this delicately-shaded member of the "wave" group is always a favorite. This is the typical form of the lace-border, with the complex dark pattern around the wing edges. Other forms have more washed-out coloring.

Lace-borders keep their wings spread at rest, unlike many moths which fold up all the wings snugly to the body.
