The horned spanworm is listed in Covell as "local and uncommon throughout our area." This fellow showed up in our foyer, resting on a sweatshirt that was hanging by the door.
Since its caterpillars feed on linden, maple, oak and strawberries, in addition to other low-growing plants, there are plenty of opportunities for a meal in our yard.
