Marbled Orchard Tortrix
Here is a species whose colorings appear to mimic bird droppings. Larval food plants include hawthorns, blackthorns, mountain ash and various fruit trees. At one time there we did have a mountain ash in the front yard, and others in the neighborhood still have them. Identification of the Hedya moths relied on online species plates, as they did not appear in the Covell or Holland indexes. |
